Edith Julia Bronson married an outlaw at the begininng of this century. This courageous pioneer women bore the lawless husband,Fred Frye,nine children, drove a freight wagon 2,000 miles from North Dakota to British Columbia on a six-year odyssey, endured lonliness, her husband's bootlegging, brawling, philandering and brutality, and in the end shot and killed him to protect herself and their children from his murderous rages.

Buckskin Booksellers was founded by David and Jan Smith,
and they moved the store to the newly renovated Beaumont
Hotel in the spring of 2001. Caroline and Robert Stoufer
bought the store in November of 2001, and Caroline ran the
store until the spring of 2007, when Robert began running
the bookstore, due to Caroline's illness. Caroline passed
away on December 7, 2007. Robert continues to operate the
bookstore.
